And the cat and mouse game continues. Last Tuesday, Apple released the latest version of the iPhone OS 3.1.3 (7E18). This was an unexpected release, since a lot of people were hoping for the 3.2 version which is on the new iPad.

With the iPhone 3GS progressively being rolled out in more countries, it’s easier now to get your hands on a unit. You could get a legally unlocked set from some places (such as Hong Kong), or your could obtain one from other sources. Now, you can unlock your iPhone 3GS.

The wait is over. If you own an Apple iPhone 3G, you can now do a software unlock for free. The iPhone Dev team has released ultrasn0w, which will allow you a more or less painless unlock experience.

It’s been quite an exciting week in the iPhone world, first with the release of the latest iPhone operating system (iPhone OS 3.0), followed by the arrival of the new iPhone 3G S in selected countries. I’ve watched with envy as my colleagues upgraded their iPhone 3G and iPod touches to the new iPhone OS 3.0. What have I been waiting for? The ability to unlock my original iPhone, of course. The opportunity came to me this morning when the iPhone Dev Team released the latest version of PwnageTool.
