A lot of people are waiting for Palm to release their new smartphone, the Palm Pre, with carriers/operators other than US-based Sprint. While there were rumours of a second webOS-based device, the Palm EOS for GSM networks, it turns out that Palm is sticking exclusively with the Palm Pre for a little while longer.

The Palm Pre smartphone has been chugging along since its introduction, although it’s been a bit overshadowed by the iPhone OS 3.0 and iPhone 3G S announcements. Let’s do a quick roundup of news about Palm and the Palm Pre. No, we still don’t know yet when we’ll see a GSM Palm Pre.

These are the best of times, these are the worst of times. Palm has announced that CEO Ed Colligan is leaving the company, to take a position in Palm’s investor Elevation Partners. Colligan has been with Palm since the very beginning.

The Palm Pre is here. After a long, long time, Palm finally has a credible product out in the market that is entirely their own. No more hiding behind Windows Mobile and a 5-year old second hand operating system, the Palm Pre is set to make or break Palm, which was once the leader in smartphones and mobile computing.
