In the video, the clear winner is the iPhone 3G. Obviously, this can never be an objective test, since there are many variables including network coverage, interference, etc. I suppose if you do a comparison with the newer iPhone 3GS, then the Pre and Storm would even less credible as alternatives.

Note : the above photo shows the Blackberry Bold, not the Storm.

The wait is over. If you own an Apple iPhone 3G, you can now do a software unlock for free. The iPhone Dev team has released ultrasn0w, which will allow you a more or less painless unlock experience.

Here’s how to do it in 7 easy steps:

 1. Upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 using iTunes
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in Cydia or Icy. Install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. That’s it — Enjoy!

Note : T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w. If you have an iPhone 3GS (or iPhone 3G S, whatever Apple calls it now), you’ll still have to wait a while.

First, you need to upgrade your iPhone 3G to the latest firmware (version 2.2). Then you need to jailbreak it using QuickPwn. Finally, you’ll need to install Yellowsn0w.

Remember to back up your iPhone before doing anything. This is obviously unauthorized, so do it at your own risk. Current reports indicate a 50/50 chance of success.

Step by step instructions here.
