Opera Software, which offers the free Opera Mini web browser for mobile phones, has released a report on the state of mobile web. Covering the first three months of this year, the report looks at the aggregate traffic generated by 44 million cumulative Opera Mini users worldwide.

For regular readers, sorry for the lack of updates to Treo Today lately. For one thing, there’s just nothing exciting coming out from the Palm mothership these days. Personally, the new year brought new challenges in my day job. I have an additional portfolio and double the number of people reporting to me. My Treo 680 has kept me sane during the past crazy month of transitions.

What’s the difference between yesterday and today? Nothing much, if you consider it on a day by day basis. Just 26 years after the first cellular (mobile) network was launched, we have reached 3.3 billion mobile subscriptions. That’s half the population of the world, many of whom never had any form of telecommunications just ten years ago. Today there are mobile networks in 224 countries.
