Goodbye, Palm OS
Palm is officially saying goodbye to Palm OS. While speaking at an investor conference, Palm CEO Ed Colligan announced that there will be no more new devices running the “classic” Palm operating system.
Palm will focus on Windows Mobile and the new webOS from now on. I remember getting my first Palm OS device back in 1998. The Palm OS was simple, fast and user friendly. Unfortunately the OS stayed exactly the same for about 10 years, until the new webOS came.
The only Palm OS powered device in the coming year will be the Centro, which is still being released in new territories worldwide. The Palm Pre looks like a great device, but now I’m more looking forward to a Centro replacement — something small and fast at the $100 price point.
