Well, it took a while, but the iPhone Dev Team delivered. Six months after the introduction of the Apple iPhone 3G, you can now do a jailbreak and software unlock.

First, you need to upgrade your iPhone 3G to the latest firmware (version 2.2). Then you need to jailbreak it using QuickPwn. Finally, you’ll need to install Yellowsn0w.

Remember to back up your iPhone before doing anything. This is obviously unauthorized, so do it at your own risk. Current reports indicate a 50/50 chance of success.
