Happy New Year 2009!

Wow, what a year. 2008 saw the emergence of Apple as a powerhouse in the mobile world, breaking all records and going on to sell millions more smartphones than any other company on the planet. We saw RIM holding on strong as the leader in the enterprise market, and not resting on their laurels. RIM released a few new Blackberries, the most notable being the Blackberry Bold and the controversial Storm. The “Google phone” appeared in the form of the G1, a collaboration with HTC and T-Mobile.

And Palm? A rather quiet year, as they consolidated under new management. We saw the Treo Pro as the flagship Windows Mobile smartphone from Palm, supported by the Centro (with multiple colours, of course).

2009 will start fast with a bang. Palm is slated to make an announcement at CES, hoping to regain its mojo. Apple will make its last appearance at Macworld, where we are sure to hear more about the great progress the mighty iPhone is making.

I’m quite positive about 2009, despite the financial doom and gloom. Thanks to Apple, we have a vibrant mobile developer community and all the mobile players are bringing their best products to the market.

Have a good New Year, see you on the other side.
