Pwned! I took the plunge yesterday and upgraded my iPhone 2G to 2.2 firmware. Next, I used QuickPwn to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone. No major issues — it was all done in about 20 minutes (including restoring my data and apps).

It didn’t take long at all. The iPhone Dev Team folks have just released the latest versions of their QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool software, to cater for the latest iPhone 2.2 firmware update. Right now, the tolls are available for Mac only. If you have a 3G iPhone, don’t use these tools yet. For 2G iPhone owners, you only need to restore your iPhone to the latest firmware (using iTunes) and then run QuickPwn. As always, remember to back up before you do anything.

Apple has released the latest firmware update for the iPhone, firmware 2.2. You can check your iTunes for an update, although the servers are understandably hammered right now. If you have an unlocked or jailbroken iPhone, do wait a while until new patches or hacks are released to cater for this update. Otherwise, go ahead and update.

I’m sure by now you’re just about sick with all the reports saying how well the Apple iPhone is doing. Well, here’s another one. According to the latest AdMob metrics (for October 2008), the iPhone was the largest audience for mobile ads worldwide. The iPhone had 4.1% of the total audience, compared to the #2 which was the RAZR V3 at 3.4%. Granted, this is only within the AdMob advertising network, however they are delivering upwards of 235 million ad impressions each month.
