Goodbye, Treo 680
Earlier this week, Palm said goodbye to the Treo 680 smartphone. Palm has put the Treo 680 as EOL (End of Life). The 680 was the successor to Palm’s groundbreaking Treo 600 and successful Treo 650 line. It had double the memory of the Treo 650 and a slightly modified form factor (i.e., minus the 90′s style antenna).
I used the Treo 680 for a short period (5 months), during which I suffered from frequent crashes and frustrating lags in the user interface. This was the smartphone which turned me off Palm devices altogether, despite having been a loyal Palm OS supporter since 1998 and despite being a happy Treo 650 user for 3 years.
I wonder how my experience would have been had I switched from the 650 to the Centro. The Centro uses the same operating system as the 680, without the lags. Of course the Centro is a departure from the 6xx series with a different form factor.
Goodbye, Treo 680 — I wish I could say that I miss you.
