iPhone solo experiment, day 6
Today is the sixth day of me using my iPhone as the only computing and communications device. So far, the iPhone has done a fantastic job as a media device, especially when it comes to entertaining my kids.
My fifteen-month old daughter has a favourite episode of Sesame Street, which she has watched several dozen times over the past few days. The episode somehow keeps her calm and quiet, which translates to some peace to me and my wife!
My six year old son is discovering some of the games I have on my iPhone. His favourites are Cro-Mag Rally and Cubes. Tap Tap Revolution is also a great game for kids, since it has an innovative two player mode.
I have been using the iPhone as a media capture device. The built-in Camera application is strictly no frills but it does a decent job of taking photos. Uploading photos to Flickr and Facebook is also quite easy using the email method. As for video, I have been using Cycorder which is available for jailbroken iPhones.
Other than reading my ebooks, I stay updated on the latest news feeds using Google Reader. I have also managed to catch up on my work and personal email, although it has to be done discreetly since I am technically on vacation!
So far, I’m very happy with the iPhone’s performance. The only time that I miss a desktop/laptop is when I want to download podcasts. Other than that, the iPhone has met all my needs, even helping my wife Google recipes at the last minute.
I still have 5 more days to my break; we’ll catch up later.
