TextOnPhone : an even easier way to read ebooks on your iPhone

Just when I thought I had figured out how to read books on my iPhone, it turns out that there’s an even easier way. TextOnPhone from PortableReading is an excellent web service designed from the ground up to help you read ebooks and articles on your iPhone.
They have a library of 30,000 novels and books available today. TextOnPhone looks great on the iPhone, and it’s very easy to use. You don’t even need to jailbreak your iPhone. To try it out, you don’t even need to register. They immediately populate your reading list with 4 books. There’s a pretty good search function, plus they do recommendations, too.
To explain how it all works (and why it’s so awesome), Kevin Tofel has done a video overview of TextOnPhone.
TextOnPhone allows you to upload your own ebooks through a Facebook application. I tried this out — it really works well. Currently you can only upload in text format (you have to copy and paste into a form). The app is clever though : it automatically added a cover aimage (I assumed taken from Amazon or other sources) based on the title and author of the book.
To get started, go to www.textonphone.com on your iPhone (or iPod touch). I think this is a great model that could really work — your have your ebook store (with free and commercial ebooks) in one place together with the reader.
