iPhone to appear everywhere
May 8, 2008 – 9:10 am | by AziziWith just 1.7 million iPhones sold last quarter, Apple has a long way to go to reach their target of 10 million iPhones this year. Apple started slow and steady with the iPhone, announcing exclusive deals with mobile operators in only a handful of countries so far. Today, you can legally purchase the iPhone in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Ireland and Austria. That’s about to change : in the past few days, both Vodafone and America Movil has announced multiple-country, non-exclusive deals for iPhone distribution.
Vodafone is expected to sell the iPhone in 10 countries: Australia, India, South Africa, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal and Turkey. The largest of these markets is India, which is a fairly exciting development. America Movil, which operates in 16 countries in Latin America also announced a similar iPhone distribution deal. Expect the iPhone to appear in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.
What’s interesting is that these latest 2 deals are non-exclusive. For example, in Italy, both Vodafone and Telecom Italia will be offering the iPhone. This is good news all around for would-be iPhone customers — would an unlocked iPhone be offered soon?
All eyes are on Apple now, and the next generation iPhone.
