Yesterday, Apple announced their financial results for the previous quarter (January to March 2008). The results are fairly encouraging, with a revenue of US$7.51 billion and a net quarterly profit of US$1.05 billion. Overall the numbers are less than October to December 2007, but that was expected since sales are usually very high at the year end. Apple sold 2,289,000 Mac computers (representing 51 percent unit growth and 54 percent revenue growth over the same period last year), sold 10,644,000 iPods, and reported quarterly iPhone sales of 1,703,000.

You don’t need a dedicated ebook reader (like the Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device) to read ebooks. Your smartphone (whether it’s Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian or even the iPhone) can do the job equally well. By reading ebooks, you also help to save trees (although you probably can’t claim that you save energy costs as well). To celebrate Earth Day, my favourite ebook store Fictionwise is offering a 10% discount off all ebooks.

While we (im)patiently wait for the next Windows Mobile Treo from Palm, the Centro has been making waves in the US thanks to its low price. The Centro has also been released in several countries, including Columbia, Mexico, Singapore and Malaysia. Unfortunately, without telco subsidies, Palm cannot keep its low price out of the US. In Malaysia, the Centro retails for RM1400 (US$450), only slightly less than its older brother Treo 680.

My daily commute is very long — just over 100km. On normal days, that translates to about 3 hours. On days when the traffic is crazy, it can drag to 5 or more hours. Over the past few months, the iPhone has kept me sane through my commute.
