Using my Treo 680 at work

For regular readers, sorry for the lack of updates to Treo Today lately. For one thing, there’s just nothing exciting coming out from the Palm mothership these days. Personally, the new year brought new challenges in my day job. I have an additional portfolio and double the number of people reporting to me. My Treo 680 has kept me sane during the past crazy month of transitions.

The Treo 680 has done an excellent job as usual to manage my schedule, especially with multiple meetings happening at the same time. It would be impossible to figure out where I need to be otherwise! I exchange dozens of SMS each day with my team members; this is our primary way to communicate aside from face to face discussions.

I still take meeting notes in plain old Memos (I have around 1,000 memos). I find that I hardly ever use Documents To Go to view or edit documents on my Treo 680. It’s really just too slow and too limited (in terms of what you can see on the screen) for the types of documents that I deal with.

The one thing that I really find annoying is the mysterious slow downs on the Treo 680. Occasionally it just freezes and I have to either wait a couple of minutes or reset the device by removing the battery. This is especially frustrating when I need to make an urgent call. I actually carry a second phone (a cheap but absolutely rock solid Nokia 1100) as a backup just to make calls.

I am looking at the iPhone again as a potential Treo replacement; the only thing I am waiting for right now is for Apple to release its Software Development Kit later this month.
