4 million iPhones sold in 200 days

We now know the Apple iPhone as the phone to break perceptions and records. In just 200 days, Apple has sold 4 million iPhones. That’s 20,000 units a day. For comparison purposes, Palm sells roughly 7.5k Treo smartphones each day. In the first quarter after release, Apple’s market share of the smartphone market went to 20%, which is about the same as Palm, Motorola and Nokia combined.

Now that we’re done salivating over the oh-so-thin but impractical, underpowered and pricey MacBook Air, let’s step back and think about what this year’s Macworld Keynote brought us. There were very few major announcements. Other than the MacBook Air, we had a revision of Apple TV, iTunes Movie Rentals, a wireless backup solution, and software updates for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Ready for Macworld?

If you’re an Apple fanboy, I bet you’re already anticipating that big “one more thing” from Steve Jobs tomorrow. Will it be a tablet/multi-touch computer? A super thin “MacBook Air” notebook computer? A new Mac mini? One thing for sure, Jobs will be talking about the new iPhone SDK (software development kit) which is supposed to be available next month. It will be interesting to see if he will demo any third party applications for the iPhone. Add a real Memo app, Office documents editor and an eBook reader, and I’ll certainly be interested.
