Asus Eee 4G-Galaxy 7\

ASUS has exceeded their own expectations in selling the Eee PC. They sold a whopping 350,000 units in the last quarter. That’s roughly half the number of Treo smartphones sold in the last period. That’s good news for Palm’s Foleo, when it ships. There’s definitely a demand for low-cost, well-made sub-notebook computers. The bad news is, by the time the Foleo ships, ASUS would have pretty much covered all the market with new, cheaper, and better versions. ASUS is not resting on its laurels, launching new variations on the flagship 4GB model, so they have versions at 2GB and 8GB, with/without webcam, etc. Don’t forget that there are a number of competitors already gearing up to launch products with the same form factor / price point.

What application do you use to organize your shopping lists? For Palm OS, there are a few choices including the built-in To Do list, Handyshopper, and SplashShopper. Splashdata is holding a contest to get people to try out their SplashShopper application. You can download a 30-day trial of SplashShopper for free. To enter the contest, just create your favourite list (e.g . “Best Gifts for Teens,” “Healthy Holiday Snacks Grocery List,” “Best Holiday Videos,” “Great Wines Under $10,” “Hottest Video Games”), export it to vShop format, and email it to Cindy at SplashData.

RIM BlackBerry 8300 Curve Silver Quad Band GSM PDA Smart Phone (SIM Unlocked) BlackBerry 8100c Red Pearl Phone (AT&T)

While Palm is struggling with its financial position and product releases, its longtime rival Research in Motion (RIM) is doing extremely well. The Blackberry maker sold more than 3.9 million devices in the last quarter, which is 17 times more than Palm. I have to say RIM has introduced very attractive models this year, including the GSM BlackBerry Curve and the consumer-friendly BlackBerry Red Pearl. RIM has continued to do well in the business (small business and enterprise) market, an area where Palm was once quite strong.

Palm sells 686,000 smartphones

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Palm has just released their latest financial figures. In the previous 3 months, Palm has sold 686,000 smartphones, which is about the same as the previous quarter. This figure is up 11% from the same period last year. The financials look glum, with the company losing money (how much they lost depends on how you look at it — I am not an accountant) despite making US$349.6 million in revenues. For the next quarter, Palm is projecting an even lower revenue target.
