Millions (ok, maybe thousands) of French geeks and fashionistas are eagerly awaiting November 29th, when the Apple iPhone will be officially available in France. Apple’s partner is Orange (France Telecom). The Apple iPhone will be priced at €399 for a 1 or 2 year contract, with monthly fees between €49 (US$72) and €119 (US$175). So here’s the interesting news : to abide with French laws, Orange customers can unlock their iPhone for another €100 on the spot or free after 6 months.

A contract-free version of the iPhone will also be sold for €649 ($957), although if you opt for this you have to pay a further €100 as an “unlocking fee”. Still expensive, but it’s definitely cheaper than the unlocked iPhone from T-Mobile Germany which will set you back a whopping €999.
