The good news : we might see a unlocked Apple iPhones for sale legally. The bad news : it will cost you €999 euros. The US$1478 contract-free iPhone will be made available by T-Mobile in Germany, in order to comply to local rules. An iPhone with a contract from T-Mobile will cost €399 euros.

There’s one silver lining in this that I see. With a legal unlocked iPhone in the wild, our hackers should be able to somehow extract the firmware and come up with an unlocking solution that doesn’t depend on a security exploit.
