One billion SMS per week in Britain
November 5, 2007 – 10:25 am | by AziziIn 1999, Britons sent 1 billion SMS for the whole year. Eight years later, they are sending 52 times more — 1 billion in just a week. SMS, along with voice calls, continue to be the “killer app” for mobile phones.
The number of calls made and SMS sent worldwide boggles the imagination. It has made the world that much more smaller. Thinking about this, I am reminded of what Jan Chipcase said in his TED presentation : mobile phones allow us to transcend space and time. We transcend space because we can call anyone on the planet who has a phone. We transcend time with SMS because we can send when it’s convenient to us, and the recipients can read the SMS when it’s convenient to them.
So, how many SMS are you going to send today?
