What’s the difference between yesterday and today? Nothing much, if you consider it on a day by day basis. Just 26 years after the first cellular (mobile) network was launched, we have reached 3.3 billion mobile subscriptions. That’s half the population of the world, many of whom never had any form of telecommunications just ten years ago. Today there are mobile networks in 224 countries.

Millions (ok, maybe thousands) of French geeks and fashionistas are eagerly awaiting November 29th, when the Apple iPhone will be officially available in France. Apple’s partner is Orange (France Telecom). The Apple iPhone will be priced at €399 for a 1 or 2 year contract, with monthly fees between €49 (US$72) and €119 (US$175). So here’s the interesting news : to abide with French laws, Orange customers can unlock their iPhone for another €100 on the spot or free after 6 months.

I have to admit, Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite modern writers. I started following him with The Sandman series in the late 80’s and greatly enjoyed his last collection of short stories (Fragile Things) and his last full-length novel, Anansi Boys. Gaiman’s latest work is M is for Magic, another splendid collection of short stories.

Palm has released the Treo 755p smartphone in Mexico. The Treo 755p is a Palm OS smartphone running on the CDMA/EvDO network. Palm’s operator partner in Mexico is Iusacell. In the US, Verizon customers are still waiting for their Treo 755p, which is currently only available for Sprint.
