I was very disappointed when Palm CEO Ed Colligan previously mentioned that devices running the new Palm Linux OS would only appear at the end of 2008. Well, we may have to wait a little longer. Palm’s new Chairman, Jon Rubinstein, has been quoted as saying it will take 18 months for new products to roll out.

Rubinstein said this in a recent interview. This is another blow for Palm loyalists. By spring of 2009, when the new devices appear, Apple would probably have the second or third version of the iPhone out. The 3rd version of the iPod, and the iMac, was solid.

Seriously, my Treo 680 is really just the third minor update of the original Handspring Treo 600 (I consider the Treo 650 as version 2). The Treo 600 was released way back in 2003. In four years, in terms of operating system we progressed from Palm OS 5.2.1 to 5.4.9. It’s sad to think that the only OS innovations that Palm can introduce is only thanks to Microsoft!

This additional delay for the new product launch possibly means that Palm is going back to the drawing board. I hope so; we can only stomach so many “recycled” products like the Centro.
