Treo 680 : Second impressions
Now that I’ve had a week or so with the Treo 680, it’s time to discuss “second impressions”. I am rapidly getting to grips with the new keyboard layout. Since my Treo 680 is still caseless at the moment, it feels lighter, but it still has a good heft to it.
I like the little improvements that Palm has made with the software. For example :
- Pressing and holding the Home button brings up a list of recently used applications.
- The keyguard shows the time and date. I usually turn on my Treo just to check the time, so this is great.
- As mentioned before, Blazer seems really fast now.
What I don’t like :
- Palm removed the “Disconnect” button from Blazer! Now to disconnect my GPRS connection, I have to make 4-5 clicks. (Press & Hold Home -> Prefs -> Network -> Disconnect).
- The battery life leaves much to be desired. I can get through maybe 3-quarters of the day before the battery dies. Even my two-year old Treo 650′s battery performs better than this anemic 1200 mAh battery. I’m still waiting for my 1600 mAh extended battery to arrive.
- The green button is redundant. There are only a few applications that make use of it, why waste a button? You can’t even turn on the Treo with it, and you can’t remap the button.
