Palm has started to seed review units of the new Centro smartphone to bloggers, including The Gadgeteer, Treocentral and Engadget. Treocentral has put up a video of the Centro unboxing (see above).

The Centro is a crucial product for Palm, as there will be no smartphones with a new operating system until end of next year. Palm is only depending on the tried and trusted (and tired) Garnet 5.4.9, so they need to make sure that at least the hardware changes and improves.

The keyboard is very important when the phone is as small as the Centro — fortunately both Dieter (Treocentral) and Julie (The Gadgeteer) report that the keyboard is pretty usable.
