Using the iPhone as an ebook reader

You should know by now that I read a whole lot of ebooks. This year, I’ve read 47 books so far, so I’m ahead of my current goal of 1 book a week. You also know that I’m eyeing an Apple iPhone. So how can I justify getting an iPhone if it doesn’t support 3rd party applications, let alone ebooks? Well, as it turns out, both these assumptions are untrue. You can install 3rd party applications on an iPhone, and one of them is an ebook reader called Books.app.

Developed by Zach Brewster-Geisz, Books.app has been frequently updated with feature improvements and bug fixes. I am quite impressed with the feature list, despite being only a few months old. Books.app can read plain text and HTML documents, as well as JPG and PNG images. You can choose your font and font size, set your navigation bar to auto-hide, and much more.

Books.app is free. To install, you need to use a tool like Installer.app. If you have an iPhone, do give it a try!
