Apple has released their latest financial reports for the previous quarter ending June 30th, 2007.  Alongside record shipping figures for Macs and iPods,  Apple revealed the number of iPhones they sold on June 29th and June 30th : 270,000 units.  Considering that Apple only released the iPhone for sale at 6pm on June 29th, and only a few Apple Stores are open for 24 hours, this is a very impressive number indeed.
Out of these, AT&T managed to activate 140,000 iPhones in the same period, just 52% of the total sold.
Almost overnight, Apple has created a large customer base.  No doubt its still far short of the 8 million or so Treo smartphones already in the marketplace, but Apple has already projected 1 million iPhone will to be sold by end of September.  Palm needs to be ready to release some substantial new products by then.
