In case you missed it, yesterday, 23rd July 2007 was the 15th anniversary of text messaging. It was back in 1992 that the first SMSC (Short Message Service Centre) was released by a company called Acision. Fast forward a decade and a half later, the amount of text messages sent is simply staggering. For my home country Malaysia, by my rough estimation we send 160 million SMS each day — that’s 6 SMS for each person in the country, or around 8 per each mobile phone user.

SMS has changed the lives of so many people around the world, from overthrowing government in the Philippines to enriching the livelihood of the poorest people in the Indian subcontinent and Africa.
