We know for sure that the Palm Foleo, due out later this year, will run Palm’s new Linux-based operating system.    Now it seems that’s the only device running Palm Linux that we will see in 2007.   In a recent conference call, Palm CEO Ed Colligan confirmed that they are indeed working on new products based on the Linux OS, but will not launch them until 2008.

Until then, we are still stuck with plain old Garnet OS and Windows Mobile.  There’s still hope of seeing Windows Mobile 6 on a Treo this year, but that’s all we can expect in terms of OS development from Palm.

This is yet another unfortunate setback for Palm.  With the Apple iPhone (mostly) meeting expectations and raising the bar in smartphone usability, Palm needs catch up and really wow us with their next device.
