Unlike Apple with the iPhone, Palm is planning to launch its new Foleo Mobile Companion device with a number of third party applications. Palm is obviously hoping to repeat its success in building up an application catalogue of over 10,000 applications for the Palm OS. Mobile developers who are already on board with Palm’s new Linux-based operating system include Astraware, Avvenu, Bluefire and MotionApps. (more…)

No matter where you are today, you can’t help but be caught in the Apple iPhone media storm. You’ll find coverage just about everywhere. Even hardcore Treo users are in the game — Mike Overbo of TreoCentral was one of the people who got in line to be one of the first people to get their hands on the iPhone, on “iDay”. He joins an illustrious crowd, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, megablogger Robert Scoble, and the Digg guys.

Palm has reported their latest financial results for the last quarter, which ended 1st June 2007. The number of Treo smartphones sold was a record high — over 750,000 units, up 43% from the same period last year. However, revenue for the whole fiscal year (i.e., twelve months ending 1st June 2007) fell slightly, and net income dropped drastically from US$336.2 million to just US$56.4 million.

For the past few days, I have used my Treo 650 smartphone a lot. My wife safely delivered our third child, a baby girl, on Friday morning (22nd June). Of course, my faithful Treo was there in the delivery room with us, making itself useful.
