Well, no one knows exactly what is Jeff Hawkins’ new product, or even what the code name is, but the team over at Brighthand sure had a good time speculating. The Palm “Hawk” is their unofficial codename for the previously announced “third device line” coming from Palm, which will neither be a Treo nor a classic PDA.

Brighthand’s predictions generally revolve around a LifeDrive evolution, referring to larger abd fuller-featured devices such as the Microsoft UMPC, Sony UX50 and Nokia N800 Internet tablets. Instead of rehashing current devices, I would love for Palm to go retro and bring back a classic. One of the best early PDAs (in terms of form factor) was the Psion Series 3a. It had a great keyboard that worked very well, and the software surpasses even some of today’s PDAs. I would pay good money for a Series 3a/Revo style clamshell with a colour touchscreen and built-in GSM. For good measure, throw in the Numenta “magic brain machine“.

More details of this mysterious device is supposedly due next week, so keep tuning in.
