Palm continues to do well, no saviour confirmed or required
It’s all around good news for Palm. Palm Inc released their latest financial results, which are very positive. Palm sold 738,000 Treo smartphones in 3 months, a 30% increase over the same period last year. They were also granted a stay of proceedings in the patent infringement litigation brought against the company by NTP. NTP successfully sued RIM for the same patent infringement last year, but Palm is fighting it all the way.
Despite the healthy financial performance, Palm’s shares took a beating in the market when no buyer emerged as previously speculated. Nokia, Motorola and two other parties were mentioned as possible buyers. On a lighter note, former Palm executive Michael Mace has a list of seven other companies who should consider buying Palm.
