Can’t live without push email? You now no longer need a Windows Mobile-based Palm smartphone (like the Treo 700wx or Treo 750) to make use of Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology. Palm has released the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Update for Palm OS devices. The Palm Treo 680 and Treo 700p smartphones are supported. The new update enhances VersaMail by adding Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology, which gives users connected to an Exchange Server fast, automatic wireless updates of email, calendar and contact information.

One of the downsides to having a lighter, slimmer form factor with the Treo 680 is the smaller capacity battery. After reaching the shores of Malaysia and Thailand, the new Palm Treo 680 smartphone is now available in the Philippines. Palm’s partner in the Philippines for the GSM/EDGE smartphone is Globe Telecom. Expect to fork out around 29,800 pesos for the Treo 680.
