Palm buys Palm OS licence from ACCESS
Looks like we will see more Treo smartphones based on the Palm OS Garnet platform for a while longer. Palm has just signed an agreement with ACCESS (formerly PalmSource) to gain a perpetual licence to the Palm OS source code, for a whopping US$44 million. Now that ACCESS is going ahead with its ALP (Access Linux Platform), Palm OS finally has a home and a promise of further development. This also means that it is now less likely that we will see Treo smartphones of Palm PDAs with ALP.
Not long ago Palm hired a number of software developers; now we know what they will be working on.
