Palm has released a new updater for Verizon versions of the Palm Treo 650 smartphones. It’s good to see that Palm is still maintaining the software on older Treos. Treo Updater version 1.05a for Verizon Treos includes the following enhancements :
* Enhanced memory handling for opening larger web pages
* Optimized Bluetooth® performance and added support for additional headsets and carkits
* Adds Dial Preferences screen to Phone Application
* Enhancement to Date/Time preference panel to address daylight savings time and network time
* Replaces Wireless Sync application with Wireless Sync over-the-air provisioning client
* Adds support for certain cradle-based accessories, including speaker docks
* Integrates the Treo 650 E911 Updater to improve the ability of emergency room response personnel to locate users who dial 911 from the Treo 650 smartphone

I first read The World is Flat a couple of months ago, and it really blew me away. Thomas L. Friedman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist gives a bold, timely, and surprising picture of the state of globalization in the twenty-first century. You might have heard a lot of the buzzwords – outsourcing, global supply chain, etc — but this book gives a good overview of what’s happening and why we need to know it. One great example given in the book is a look at Dell’s supply chain — you’ll be surprised how a notebook computer gets put together from the moment you order it online to the time it gets delivered to your doorstep. The World is Flat takes us on a journey around the globe – from the US to India to China, and many places in between.
