Access Linux Platform at Linuxworld

Palmsource showed off their new operating system, Access Linux Platform, at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco last week. David Beers of PalmInfocenter was there and he has done a field report. The ALP demo shown could run Palm OS Garnet, native GTK (Gnome Toolkit), Java and MAX framework applications. So yes, it does run Bejeweled! In its current incarnation, ALP more or less keeps the familiar user interface of the Palm OS but also adds the long-missing multitasking feature under the hood.
David says : “ALP does indeed look very much like a successor to the Palm OS–quite frankly, more so than I expected it to. “ The ALP is still scheduled to be delivered to licensees by the end of this year. Whether Palm will officially use it as their next operating system remains to be seen.
