Palm, Inc has released their latest financial figures - fourth quarter fiscal year 2006. Palm has certainly successfully transitioned from a pure PDA company to a smartphone company - they shipped 623,000 Treos compared to 495,000 PDAs in the fourth quarter. Over the past year, they have shipped 2.3 million Treos compared to 2.5 million PDAs - this year, sales of Treos should surpass PDAs by a significant amount.

Palm’s financials look healthy - both revenues and net income increased, with Treo sales bringing in over US$1 billion to the company. However, in the grand scheme of things, 2.3 million is positively tiny compared to the hundreds of millions of phones shipped by Nokia - which are becoming more powerful with each new model. Palm needs to ramp up on their new product introduction, even if they choose to remain a niche player in the market.
