Football 2006

Even if you are not a fan of football (soccer to Americans), you can’t escape the media coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2006 currently being held in Germany. How things have changed. When I was young, my football-mad older brother would carefully place his World Cup calendar (typically a pull-out from a newspaper or football magazine) in a safe place, then suffer through late nights and early morning to update the scores. These days, all he would need is Football 2006.

Football 2006 is a free application for Palm OS PDAs and smartphones, and is sponsored by TinyStocks. It keeps track of all the 32 teams and all matches involved in the World Cup. For Internet-enabled PDAs or Treos, you can update the latest scores wirelessly. No more hunting for newspapers or searching online!

The updates are quite small and update quickly. There are many ways to view the results of various matches and to track the performance of various teams. You can select by Groups. At a glance this will show you which teams are most likely to go forward to the next round.

There are other useful information as well. You can view via stadium, and find out which matches play at which stadium, plus some trivia as well.

Football 2006 is a fairly simple and basic application, but it should keep you updated throughout the World Cup – and your friends and family will certainly think that you know your stuff!
