One of the biggest disappointments about the new Palm Treo 700p (and indeed, the Palm Treo 650) is that there’s no support for WiFi. So are we ever going to see WiFi on Palm OS Treos? It turns out, the answer is yes. Palm CEO Ed Colligan told Washington Post’s Technology Briefing that the reason they have not added WiFi to the current Treo line is because of battery life. “We do believe Wi-Fi is an important technology,” Colligan said. “There’s no question that we’ll ultimately put in our products, but at the right time.”

I will be off on holiday from today (Monday) through Wednesday. Expect news to be a little bit sparse over the next few days. I’ll be bringing along my trusty Treo 650 smartphone (of course) and will take lots of photos. See you Thursday.

A few lucky people have already received their new Palm Treo 700p smartphone. For GSM users like me, it will probably be another 6-9 months (if we’re lucky) before we get our hands on one. In the meantime, we can all share in the joy of Andy Pargh unpacking his Palm Treo 700p.
