So rumours have been going about that Apple is considering buying Palm. As a fan of both companies, I think that this is a fantastic idea. Here are 5 reasons why I think Apple should by Palm:

1. Jeff Hawkins + Jonathan Ive = an unstoppable combination of droolworthy design and practical technology. Think of what amazing devices could come up from these two geniuses.

2. Apple gains immediate global mobile carrier relationships, paving the way for 3G (EVDO, HSDPA and UMTS) enabled notebooks and tablets.

3. iTunes on the Palm devices. Palm PDAs and smartphones already support audio and video; there just needs to be a simple way to purchase and download iTunes music and shows to the devices.

4. Lower costs for PDAs and smartphones. Apple is already getting rock-bottom prices on flash memory and other components for the iPod. We would finally see affordable smartphones to rival Nokia.

5. Next Macworld, we would all be salivating with anticipation when Steve Jobs says “… and one more thing”.
