Just a week or so ago we heard that there are now 2 billion mobile phone users across the globe. Now we find out that one billion of those are Nokia phones.

It’s really sobering to hear those figures. It took us (i.e., people of Earth) almost twenty years to hit one billion mobile phones, and only three years to hit the next billion. Almost one third of the Earth’s population now have a mobile social computer in their hands.

“There are more mobile phones than credit cards, more mobile phones than automobiles, more mobile phones than TV sets, and more mobile phones than fixed/wireline phones.”

Oh, and don’t forget just one million or so of those phones are Palm Treo smartphones.
