Gmail open to all

After more than a year in “beta”, Google has finally made the Gmail email service available for the public.
I have been using Gmail since the beginning, and now have 5,432 emails totalling 1177MB. Not to worry, though – because Gmail has 2.5GB of space available, and that increases everyday!
Gmail works really well with the Palm Treo 650 smartphone, and you can set it up with Versamail quite easily.
Unfortunately, “open to public” at this moment means US only. Google has come up with an SMS verification system to prevent fraudulent sign-ups, and this entails giving a US mobile phone number. Hopefully they will make it available in other countries soon.
So if you don’t yet have a Gmail account, and you have a US mobile number, sign up here. Otherwise, you can opt for the old-fashioned way – send me an email for an invite.
